Meaning: In Hebrew words “give us this day our daily bread” actually says “give us our bread tamid.” Tamid into English means “continually.” The Greek equivalent of tamid is epiousion. In Hebrew thought, “bread” is often a metaphor for the Word of God, which sustains the universe and nourishes the human soul. When we pray to God to “give us our bread continually,” we ask for him to send his heavenly bread, the Word of God, to nourish our souls.
